Toyota Enters the Supercars Championship
2026 marks a historic moment for Toyota in Australia. For the first time, the GR Supra is competing in the Repco Supercars Championship, making Toyota the third manufacturer on the grid alongside Ford and Chevrolet. It is the first time three manufacturers have been represented in the series since 2019.
Five GR Supra Supercars are racing in the 2026 season, fielded by two established teams:
- Walkinshaw TWG Racing: Driven by 2025 Supercars Champion Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood
- Brad Jones Racing: Driven by André Heimgartner, Cameron Hill, and Macauley Jones
The GR Supra Supercar was designed by the Toyota Australia design team at Altona, Melbourne, in partnership with homologation team Walkinshaw TWG Racing. Under the bonnet sits a bespoke 5.2-litre DOHC V8 engine built on Toyota's proven 2UR-GSE architecture. Toyota has committed to racing in the Supercars Championship for at least five years, signalling a long-term investment in Australian motorsport.
The 2026 season kicked off at the Sydney 500 in February and features a 14-round calendar stretching across every Australian state and territory, plus a historic New Zealand double-header in Taupō and Christchurch. The season will conclude with the Adelaide Grand Final in early December.
More Than Supercars: Toyota's Full Motorsport Program
Toyota's Australian motorsport commitment extends well beyond the Supercars grid. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) runs a multi-tier program that connects grassroots racers to professional competition.
TGRA GR Cup
The GR Cup is Australia's premier one-make racing series, featuring modified Toyota GR86 race cars competing at some of the country's most iconic circuits. Now in its ninth season, the GR Cup has become an important career pathway for aspiring professional drivers. Cameron Hill, who now races a GR Supra in the Supercars Championship with Brad Jones Racing, won the very first Toyota 86 one-make race back in 2016.
The 2026 GR Cup calendar runs alongside Supercars events, with rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park, Townsville, Ipswich, Bathurst, and Sandown. Roughly 30 drivers compete each season, with the champion taking home $50,000 in prize money.
TGRA Rally Team
On the gravel, the TGRA Rally Team, managed by Neal Bates Motorsport, campaigns two GR Yaris Rally2 cars in the Australian Rally Championship (ARC). Drivers Harry Bates and Lewis Bates finished second and third in the 2025 championship and will be looking to reclaim the top step in 2026, with their season starting at Rally Queensland in April.
Toyota also has a long-standing presence on the global motorsport stage, competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Dakar Rally, and NASCAR.
The GR Road Car Range: Track-Bred, Road-Ready
Every lesson learned on the racetrack is channelled into Toyota's GR road cars. Toyota has sold over 31,000 GR performance vehicles in Australia since 2019. The range continues to grow, delivering genuine driver's cars that carry real motorsport DNA.

The GR badge extends beyond dedicated performance cars. Toyota's GR Sport variants bring motorsport-inspired design, upgraded styling, and enhanced features to some of the brand's most popular models.
